North of Eden

Back in November I went to Mallorca to visit Brian who was looking for work on a luxury yacht. Elvis came too, from Berlin where we had all been knocking about. We rented a car and Brian mostly remembered to drive on the correct side of the road, which, being used to motorbikes was no walk in the park. He was the captain and I was the navigator. Elvis was on vibes and music. These photos are from the second day when we headed north to the mountains. Having been to a place called Cala S'almunia the day before (the most beautiful place I have ever been, ever) we were a little bit spoilt, and at the time I didn't put these photos up. But now I'm doing a second edit with fresh eyes and I'm thinking it was a goddamn good time.

Tempelhof Mission

Jules was crook the day we planned to go to the spy tower, and me and Boss didn't wanna go without him, so instead we set out for a ride and ended up at Tempelhof. It used to be a big airport which Hitler had something to do with, but now it's just a big beautiful place where people go and hang out and have fun. Berliners are good at doing that. And I wasn't bad either.

Forest Mushrooms

The markets in Berlin were out of this world. We ate so much yum food in our apartment because it was just so incredibly cheap and good. We'd head down to the canal and buy up big. These yellow beauties cost about a euro 20 I think, and came with a bunch of parsley on top. I made pasta with olive oil and salt and pepper, and garlic and parsley. It actually wasn't that good but the mushies were!

Berlin Dusks

Dusk is my favourite part of the day, always has been. It's quiet and soft, and makes me remember people I love. When I was little we used to play in the front yard by the weeping cherry tree and the jonquil patch all afternoon until the dew started to settle and our toes went numb in the grass and the dirt. The inky mute colours in these photos remind me of that, and the smell when Mum hosed the garden; the smell of the hose, the water, the dirt, the jonquils, the dew. Inside would be all warm and bright and smell like dinner, and when we went in our toes would feel funny and cold and burny as they warmed up.

Tough Guys

Vach decided to have a head-shaving ceremony to mark the end of his and Steph's season at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They had worked so unbelievably hard and at the end of the day they were cherry ripe for the picking. Vach chopped and I snapped.

 CDK.
And while we were at it, Steph gave Jules a tattoo which outlined the things that just really make him tick, including but not limited to 1/4 chicken and chips, music, footy, chili and jammy dodgers.
Legend.

My Pa and Nana Sue

Today I got an email from Pa and Sue, in reply to some postcards I sent to them. My Pa can't write anymore, so he dictated to Susan. I took these photos last time I saw them, in the sun room in their house at Ballina in Northern N.S.W.. From this window you can look out and see whales swim past if it's the right time of the year. Pa has a big old set of binoculars. We sat at the table here in the sun room, in the warm Winter sunshine and said goodbye before I went overseas.

Sailing Close to the Wind

Getting more stuff out of the archive. These I took with my Mum's old Pentax Spotmatic....
This day one of the best people I know, Simon McGuinness took us out sailing on a yacht in the bay. He showed us the ropes and we made a good sailing team, with Sime as our skipper. Ains was sick that day which we were all bummed about, so it was me, Sime, Joey, Bon, and Tori. We drank champagne of course! This must be late Summer 2010.

Sime showing Joey and Bon our course of action.

Smooth Sailing...

The Next Day at Merrick's

That night it rained and in the morning we woke up to everything covered in rain drops,  twinkling in the sun. It was a treat in Winter.

Merrick's Beach Rearview.

I'm missing lots of things about home, including my sister, my friends, the beach, and the plants.
One day early last July we went down the peninsula in my car which is named Asher Keddie after the star of channel 10's Offspring. Gracie learned to drive and was really good straight away. She's really good at things like that. She also dances really well and that is related I think.
We walked down the beach in the afternoon when we arrived at Will's family's place. We were waiting for him to finish work in Frankston.

Gracie has beautiful hands.
